Pushing the Boundaries

Scott Firestone IV

Disturbia (PG-13)

Scripture: Genesis 3:1-7

Clip Location: 19:47 through 21:10 (DVD Chapter: 4)

Synopsis: Kale has been put under house arrest, and after straying too far and alerting the police, he decides to figure out exactly where his boundaries are.

Gospel Filter: Our human nature seeks to push boundaries—something that starts when we’re children. The boundaries put in place by God and parents are there to keep us safe. Help your teenagers understand the God-given reasons for rules and boundaries.

Discussion Questions:

  • Did your parents have a lot of rules when you were growing up? Did you think the rules were too strict, too lenient, or about right? Explain. Why do you think they put those rules in place?

  • What rules do you deal with right now that don't really make sense to you? Explain.

  • Is it ever okay to break rules? Why or why not?

Read aloud Genesis 3:1-7.

  • Why do you think Adam and Eve broke God’s rule?

  • If you only had one rule to follow, would it be easier or harder than if you had a bunch of rules?

  • Do you believe the rules are there for your protection or to kill your fun? Explain.
