Bryan Belknap

Theme: A true apology reflects genuine remorse.

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 7:8-10

Clip Location: 32:00 through 33:00 Preview all Clips

Synopsis: Mr. Rooney asks Connor to apologize. Connor gives a flippant apology, and Mr. Rooney commands him to try again. Connor does so, mustering up the proper amount of remorse.

Gospel Filter: People say "sorry" a million times a day without a second thought. Unfortunately, the world rarely sees genuine remorse for a wrong committed against another these days. Discuss the nature of remorse among your group members, its need in personal relationships, as well as its necessity when coming before Jesus Christ.

Discussion Questions:

What was the last apology you received? Did you feel as if the person meant it? Why or why not?

When was the last time you were truly sorry for a mistake you made?

How did that situation differ from other times when you’ve told people you were sorry?

Read aloud 2 Corinthians 7:8-10. Can a person be truly sorry without changing? Why or why not? Why can’t a person come to God without showing remorse?

What prevents people from showing remorse for their mistakes? How would genuine remorse change our legal system? your school? your personal life?

Where do you need to show some remorse in your life, and how can you do this?
