With spring now in full force, why not have the best of both worlds, and have your group get out and support others already serving your community? Identify an all-day charity event that will be held in your community in the next month or so -- for instance, a local Relay for Life for cancer, a CROP walk, or benefit concert or auction. Make arrangements with the event's organizers to set up a booth at the event, or along the route that participants are traveling through your town. Set up one or two tables, and put out a banner or poster to invite participants to take a break at your table(s). Hand out bottles of water to participants when they stop by. You could also have a selection of fresh fruits and other healthy snacks available, to support and refresh those participating in the event, or attending in support. Find out how many are expected to attend or participate so you have enough supplies on hand. Some events go all night too, so think about the degree of commitment you want to make as a group, then stick to it. Local stores are often willing to contribute food and supplies for a good cause -- which could enable your small group to do a big job. Once you’ve established what you’d like to give away, approach store managers about partnering with you. Also consider setting up a tent to help protect participants from the elements, so those you’re serving get even more needed relief (and you can last longer too!). Be sure to take time to speak with those who visit your booth, and encourage them in the good work they're doing or taking the time to support. It will give everyone involved an extra spiritual and emotional boost, even as you're addressing their physical needs. share this article 1 of 1 /// Related Articles Town FestivalMany communities hold annual (sometimes even seasonal) town festivals, and many of them are open to civic groups of all kinds.
